Spring Break with Iowa State University Students

On March 13, 2022, a group of construction and civil engineering students from Iowa State University made the trip down to Houston, Texas to spend their spring break volunteering with Bay Area Habitat! The students are part of the Associated General Contractors of America student chapter of their school.

This group has a great deal of experience from their studies, as well as regularly volunteering with their local Habitat affiliate in greater Des Moines Iowa, and we were more than happy to partner with them. For the next four days, they were tasked with installing the Hardie board siding, fascia, and soffit at one of our La Porte Habitat homes, as well as caulking the house exterior.

With such a bright and eager group, this Habitat home progressed at a shocking-but-impressive pace, and we are excited to move onto the next steps of laying down brick and painting the exterior! It is because of dedicated volunteers like these that we are able to provide affordable housing for people in our community.

Bay Area Habitat would like to formally thank:

The students spent their free time exploring the Bay Area, touring a Downtown Houston skyscraper, and swinging clubs at Webster’s Topgolf! Bay Area Habitat thanks Topgolf for sponsoring the students’ bays — they had an amazing time, and we are grateful for the experience.

Bay Area Habitat is so grateful for the past week — filled with hard work, good company, delicious food, and a shared desire to serve our community.
